Aspirin Foundation Of America
Welcomes Research Findings On
Aspirin and Ovarian Cancer
March 21, 2001
New rearch presented at a recent meeting of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists found
that aspirin therapy may be associated with a reduced risk of epithelial ovarian cancer.
The Aspirin Foundation of America today welcomed the study's findings. It noted that though
the research is preliminary, it is encouraging to the 23,000 women who are diagnosed with
ovarian cancer every year.
"We have long known of the benefits of aspirin therapy in terms of heart disease and stroke
for those who have suffered a heart attack or a TIA," said Aspirin Foundation President Dr.
Thomas Bryant. "Now we have new evidence that it may possibly be effective in reducing the
risk of certain types of cancer."
"We welcome further research in this important area, but in the meantime we are optimistic
about these early results," Bryant added.
